Getting ready for the big move

by admin on Jun.25, 2009, under Uncategorized

Just ramping up for the big move to DC in about a month, and figured I would give an update.  I have revamped and consolidated many of the systems I own, making my network smaller, but more powerful and a bit more agile.  VMware is helping with the transition a lot and giving me some new working knowledge of the non-ESX side of VMware stuff.

Other than that, pretty much singing the praises of Dreamhost right now.  Very good with keeping me informed of what’s going on behind the scenes.  Much more flexable and easier to get things done than with Deepthought, while still being Debian-bades. The 50GB of backup space is always nice and being green (carbon offsets) is just icing on the cake.

Just waiting for the move to actually happen.  Then, there will be FiOS, and all will be good.

Moving to the new server

by admin on Apr.30, 2009, under Uncategorized

So my old hosting provider up and lost my data a few days ago, so we’re up and going on another provider.  Real bummer is that everything came from backup files and lost a bit.  Apparently I run backups on critical home data, but not stuff on other servers…lesson learned.

Regardless, we push forward.  Welcome to my new home.

Musical Madness

by admin on Jan.02, 2008, under Uncategorized

So, I started a last.fm account on New Years Eve 2007. In one year, I listened to over 12,000 songs!  last.fm/user/craigels39 has current, always updating stats.  I just thought it was crazy that I listened too that much music.  And that doesn’t cound music outside of Amarok and my iPod.

On a side note, thanks to some cool Christmas gifts, my network got a small upgrade.  Check out the updated My Computers/Network page.

Happy New Year!

Back from Powershift

by admin on Nov.07, 2007, under Uncategorized

Just got home today from Powershift in DC. Got interviewed by the Discovery Channel and am feeling very enlightened. I’m really excited to start getting more active in the community. I think the best part would have to be the new friends though. I went into this weekend not knowing anyone and have some really good friends now. S.E.A. is going to be alot more fun.

Also got to see some amazing people speak. Ralph Nader, Nancy Pelosi, and Van Jones. Spent a day on Capitol Hill and just feel lucky to be a part of such an event.

Also learned some valuable information about companies roles in the environment.  A demonstration stemming from Powershift shut down a Citibank location, due to their heavy investment into coal.

Here are links to more information on this historic weekend:

On a more personal note, I think that Maryland would be a sweet place to live. It’s beautiful and the weather is nice as well. 65 the whole weekend in DC and got off the bus this morning to sub-freezing temps.
